Summary: “The National Environmental Protection Agency of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has prepared this National Implementation Plan (NIP) in partial fulfillment of its obligations under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs). The Stockholm Convention came into effect in 2001 with the aim of eliminating or reducing the release into the environment of POPs, a class of highly toxic and stable chemicals produced by human activity, which accumulate in the environment and are transported and concentrated in certain regions by atmospheric circulation.
