Summary: “The situation in Afghanistan is deteriorating rapidly and the probability of any improvement in the near future is very slim. Moreover, the implementation of the current strategy is at best a “band aid” solution that will not provide long term peace and stability in Afghanistan and the region. The reason for this situation is that the basic principles of the strategy and the mindset behind it deal only with the outward symptoms of the problem and do not factor in many core issues. The assumption in the document is that these problems are either not understood sufficiently or ignored completely. In either case the outcome is the same, which are the current stalemate, more misery and suffering for the people of Afghanistan…”—(p. 2).
